After a series of tests, surgery was determined to be the only option. Dr. Khosla performed the operation which was successful. He had to insert two titanium rods on either side of the spine held by 24 screws. It was definitely a major surgery!<\/p>\n<p>After a stint in &#8216;rehab&#8217;, I recognized it was up to me to make the most of a second chance at a full life. I made getting better a priority. I found moving around in a warm therapeutic pool at the aquatic center extremely helpful. We also bought a treadmill. My first attempt at the treadmill was exhausting and just a minute long. However, I persevered and after a couple of months, I was up to 20 minutes on the treadmill and began swimming laps in the Olympic pool. I am not saying it was easy, but it was certainly worth it.
