At Achieve Brain & Spine, we have developed an array of effective pain management treatments to improve comfort and quality of life of those who live with chronic pain. We focus our practice upon delivering the most effective, least invasive treatments to alleviate ongoing pain.

What is pain management?

At Achieve Brain & Spine, we offer a range of advanced pain management treatments to bring relief from painful conditions that in the past, could only be relieved with medication. Our regenerative approach to medicine offers patients better options for the relief of chronic pain. The first step in a successful pain relief treatment is an accurate diagnosis.

In diagnosing chronic pain, our communication with you is a critical point. Our goal is to fully understand the scope of your individual case and the impact upon your quality of life. Through communication and a range of diagnostic tests, the most effective treatment plan can be developed, customized to treat your condition.

Causes of chronic pain

Chronic back pain, with discomfort lasting for three months or longer, can be caused by a range of conditions, diseases, and trauma. Some of the most common causes of chronic pain include:

  • Muscle or ligament strains
  • Osteoporosis
  • Ruptured, damaged, or bulging discs
  • Arthritis
  • Skeletal malformations

To successfully manage pain requires a precise diagnosis. Our approach to pain management starts with speaking with you and understanding your experience, followed by a comprehensive evaluation of your condition, employing the most advanced diagnostic tools currently available. Once the source of your pain is identified, we can offer an array of treatments to bring you long-lasting relief and a significantly improved quality of life.

Treatments for chronic pain: We can help.

A traditional approach to chronic pain is to treat the symptoms. At Achieve Brain & Spine in Los Angeles, we use a range of regenerative treatments to address the source of your pain.

PRP

Platelet rich plasma injections are proving to be one of the most effective developments in regenerative medicine, both shortening recovery times after surgical intervention and relieving pain. Chronic pain can be associated with an injury to neck or spine that the body lacks the capacity to heal due to a lack of the natural growth factors supplied through the blood. PRP injections get directly to the source, supplying an abundance of these critical growth factors directly to the injury site.

Radiofrequency neurotomy

Facet joint pain is located in the joint between two vertebrae. Lower back pain is among the most common and debilitating forms of chronic pain, causing ongoing discomfort and affecting range of motion. The pain may be associated with osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, or back trauma. Radiofrequency neurotomy is a fluoroscopy-guided procedure in which a radiofrequency needle is placed close to the medial nerve, and a small current delivered to identify the exact location of the nerve causing chronic pain. Once the nerve is precisely identified, it is numbed with local anesthetic and the nerve addressed with RF waves emitted from the needle to create a lesion on the nerve so it cannot send the pain signals to the brain.

Discography

To accurately identify the source of pain, a discography may be needed. This advanced diagnostic process involves injecting a contrast material between two discs so an image can be generated to reveal the condition of intervertebral discs, the sponge-like natural cushioning material between the two vertebrae. To correctly and effectively treat chronic back pain, a discogram, often along with X-rays or CT scan to establish a full and accurate picture of the area of your spine causing you chronic pain. These tests allow us to develop an effective pain management treatment plan.

Epidural steroid injections

Pain is often the result of inflamed spinal nerves at the point at which the nerve channel exits the spine. The spine has what is called an epidural space, located between the spinal cord and the bone. This space runs the length of the spine, and contains fat, blood vessels, and spinal nerve roots. The fat within the area works as a shock absorber. When the nerves in the area are inflamed as a reaction to the narrowing of the of the space, causing nerve compression, it leads to serious levels of pain. An epidural steroid injection affects the nerves by reducing the natural proteins that lead to swelling. These injections can provide relief for chronic back or neck pain, often lasting for many months or longer.

Stem cell therapy

Stem cells have a unique regenerative capacity, able to transform into various other types of cells, or renew themselves to create more stem cells. Stem cell therapy offers a regenerative approach to treating chronic pain. Your body was built to heal itself but may lack sufficient stem cells to rebuild injured tissue, bone, or cartilage. With stem cell therapy treatments, the body’s natural healing mechanisms are stimulated, with the capacity to actually rebuild damaged tissue.
